Fair play to the lad.. obviously realised there was more to life than sitting on the bench every week picking up a wedge!

Understandable if he has other very sensible ambitions, but he's 22 for goodness sake with a good career ahead of him.

Saw this earlier and was very suprised. Heard good things about him and was meant to be a good talent. Quite hard to hard to understand as it's not like he hasn't been playing - been on loan a few times I think. I'm sure he was on a very good wage and won't be earning anywhere near it in his new career path so good luck to him.

What a tit! Giving up that amount of money, for a job he loves to maybe signing on as he is in the 18-24 age group where 1 in 10 are out of work.

True. Equally, when you're only 22 years old you can easily see things which aren't that important as huge problems and think how bad your lot in life is. It seems like a rash, immature decision but it's his life.

If he doesn't have succeess in his next career path he could easily go back to football, he won't lose his ability. He may not get a club like Ipswich, but could still play at a decent level and on a decent wage, so it's not the end of the world for him.

True, even after a couple of years out, there would still be a good number of League 1 or League 2 clubs prepared to pay him decent money to play for them, especially after what i had seen of him in the last year, looked like he had a bright future in the game.

I can understand his reason of "falling out of love with the game", but surely he should have "stuck it out" until he had a better idea of his next career move? It's like any job, walking away from it (especially in the current economic climate) without having something else lined up is crazy. I agree with General - rash, immature decision.

Makes no sense at all. How many of us are doing our dream jobs, going to bed at 9pm on a Sunday just so Monday will come a bit quicker? Not saying his is a dream job, but playing football is as easy and as lucrative as it comes. True, it's not juat about money, but getting up at 9am, getting home at 4pm all for a couple of hours work on a Saturday? What does he expect to get from other areas of life?
Or maybe he's an alcoholic.

It can't fail to backfire, he won't have been to Uni, so he isnt going to walk into anything higher than £20k a year job. He could be earning that a month as a footballer, nothing short of a pillock for me.

I know, i admire him mostly for taking a huge gamble with his future career by making this decision, yes he said he'd fallen out of love with the game, but you have to think, he would'nt be making this decision if he didnt have a clear mind in what he wanted to do.

A decision like this will not come lightly, he has obviously thought about what the consquences, and is aware that he will not get another job as well paid, but he must of really been depressed with the situation he was in to make this call. You can't criticise someone for quitting a job he quite clearly hated, just because he was on a good wage.

Comfortably more than anyone he went to school with I bet, so he can probalbly sit comfortably for a bit whilst deciding his next move. I'd love to give up what I do but simply can't afford to unlike footballers.
