What a difference a week makes, no doubt Rafa is now once again useless after last week once again being a genius.

Last week, they just took advantage of a poor Man Utd performance, when the game is level and you're well on top, the first rule is you do not take off your best player and now as a result, he has another embarassing defeat to contemplate, his best defender being suspended (one which could be longer if the FA decide to take action against him not leaving the field when told to) and his best player likely out for a lengthy period if they go ahead with the groin op, quite simply, he's lost the plot.

If ever you had a feeling that Benitez values the champions league more than the domestic scene, then today was cast iron proof of that, even when it looks like they have little hope of going through to the knockout phase.

Their problem is their squad depth is shit, shown again today where in the absence of players Voronin gets a game. He wouldnt get a job cleaning boots at Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U never mind being a back up player to the 1st team.

I also think Rafa cares too much about the Champions League compared to the Premier League - simple fact is if they keep playing poorly in the PL this season its a choice he may not have to make next year (if he still has a job).

Aye but like OLF saif, he is an integral part of the Liverpool team, take out him, Gerrard and Torres and you have a borderline average squad on the same quality level as the teams in the bottom end of the top 8.

Now for at least 1 league game (maybe more if the FA take it further regarding Carragher's conduct after he got sent off) they will be without 2 of their most influential players and they have some killer fixtures coming up too including a trip to Arsenal and the Merseyside derby in the next 4 games.

If they get KO'd in the group stages, I have a feeling he'll walk before he's pushed.

Really what is the point of caring about the champions league rather than the domestic league, the latter is the bread and butter of the season, you cannot get into the champions league without doing well in the PL.

He might be a slight miss to them in terms of influence but I dont think you can put his absence in the same bracket as Torres and/or Gerrard.

You only have to look at their bench today to see their lack of squad depth

Gulacsi, Dossena, Plessis, Spearing, Eccleston, Babel, Sanchez Ayala

Apart from Dossena and Babel, everyone else on the bench have made a total of 3 starts between them, and yet in the summer, they blew £21million on a midfielder that was crocked. That could have got them 2 or 3 good quality players that they needed.
