man I hate the shortsighted-ness of football these days, man city are 3 points off 4th, I doubt many managers could have done better in such a short amount of time. people need to understand that there is no such thing as instant success.
which is such a stark contrast to fulham, where roy hodgson has been given time to build a team and the owners are reaping the reward, roy hodsgon has to be up there with the best in the world now.

I'd think the reason behind the sacking is that the owner probably was never happy with Hughes in the first place. Maybe the new owner should have installed his own man when he bought the club? For me, the writing was on the wall from the moment the owner came in because he lifted the club into the top bracket financially and Hughes simply isn't in the top bracket of managers.

Wonder how long before the calls for BRUCE OUT start?

That's four defeat and a draw from the last five. One win in ten I believe. Next up is Everton at home, if they lose to them, they are in the Brown Stuff for sure.

They may be in the top half but they're still only 5 points clear of the drop zone, and they'll be in the bottom half if Burnley win tomorrow.

Still plenty to worry about for what some mackem fans claim is their best team in years laugh.gif

Good job for them that they got so many points early on otherwise they would be a right old pickle.

I understand that argument, but every player he signed in the summer was bought from another Prem team, apart from Sylvinho who has played in the Prem anyway, so he has an advantage there. He's done OK with what he has, but he signing Lescott for £18m is laughable, as is £16m for Toure, even £18m for Adebayor is risky, he's done ok but is one of the most hot and cold players in the world. His best signings have been Given, Bellamy and Barry.

Sven did a much better job with less resources.

They're not exactly bottom of the league, or did you expect them to be out in front at the top?

I expected them to be top 4, didn't you?

Not necessarily, and last I checked, it's where you finish the season that matters.
The question is whether they seem capable of finishing there. On current form, they don't.

Their early exit from the champions league also has to be taken into account, whatever happens inn the rest of the season.

I don't find their early exit from the Champions League that much of a surprise - their recent record points to them playing above themselves in that competition.

Liverpool have had a lot of uncertainty surrounding them in recent years. Other teams have spent a great deal and are catching up/have caught up with them, so their position is no great surprise. It's a more interesting league than it has been for a while as far as the top 4 goes.
I think they'll still have expected to be in the top four, and not to have lost 7 Premier league matches before christmas.

Hughes had hundreds of millions thrown at him to spend on players. It was his team, and for the money they spent City should be in the top 2 all year round. Harsh, but probably deserved.

QUOTE
MANCHESTER CITY CAN CONFIRM THAT IT HAS TODAY TERMINATED THE CONTRACT OF MARK HUGHES

In giving reason for the termination Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said:

“Prior to the current season beginning, with significant investment in players and infrastructure in place, the consensus between the Board and coaching staff was that appropriate agreed targets should be set for the 2009/2010 season.

“The targets were agreed as a result of the player acquisition strategy of the club being radically accelerated in the summer as a result of very favourable conditions for any buying club. It was also based on the fact that the infrastructure of the club had been overhauled completely at great cost in order to create the best possible environment for the team.

“A return of two wins in 11 Premier League games is clearly not in line with the targets that were agreed and set. Sheikh Mansour and the Board felt that there was no evidence that the situation would fundamentally change. This is a particularly difficult announcement given the personal investment over the past 15 months on all sides and we would like to put on record our respect for and thanks to Mark Hughes and we wish him the best in his future career.”

Manchester City Football Club can confirm the appointment, with immediate effect on a permanent contract, of Roberto Mancini and are also pleased to announce that Brian Kidd will join Roberto as assistant manager.

Commenting on the appointment, Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “Roberto is a hugely experienced manager with a proven track record of winning trophies and championships. His experience and track record speak for themselves. What is absolutely clear is that Roberto believes in Manchester City’s potential to achieve at the highest level and importantly in his own ability to make this happen. My hope is that our incredible fans will join us in welcoming Roberto to the football club.”

Mark Bowen, Eddie Niedzwiecki, Kevin Hitchcock and Glyn Hodges have also left the Club and further appointments will be announced in due course.

Maybe, but every team goes through rough periods and Liverpool have been stagnating for several years now - they made a profit on transfer dealings last season for example, so their financial situation has certainly curtailed what Rafa can do in the transfer market. They were lagging the top 2/3 before, and have now been caught up by big spending City, and 2 very in form teams in Villa and Spurs, so it isn't that much of a shock they aren't currently in the top 4.

I just think; what's the point about getting annoyed about something that happened years ago, especially when there's no guarantee things would have been better otherwise? We all know Bellamy was a scumbag (and not our only one), and there was no guarantee he'd get on well with everyone and been a prolific goalscorer if he'd stayed.

Yeah I do miss the days of European football, but when I look back on those days, I try to do it in a nostalgic way, instead of an angry way at how things have turned out. Teams go up and down and I try not to care - I guess I'm not as mad a fan as most people on here, but I want to support the club and enjoy it when I can. happy.gif

Lord, what a chance for the Hammers at the end. And what about that foul by the goalie? How that wasn't a stone cold penalty to Chelsea I'll never know.

It's a shame both Everton and West 'Am let leads slip, they'd have closed the gap even further on the mackems.

Lampard had to retake a penalty twice for players encroaching. He scored all three....1-1

And all that for a penalty that should never have been given in the first place

Not usually a fan of defending the Mackems but have to say the FA's response to their appeal against Turner's red card is a disgrace.

The FA rule of extending a ban by a game if the appeal is turned down is possibly one of the stupidest things ive ever heard.

Personally thought the red card was harsh and well worth an appeal. Fair enough turn the appeal down but why the fuck can they then extend it simply for appealing??

Those jokers really do boil my piss mad.gif

Something I've never got. blink.gif

Is it punishment for all the wasted effort the FA put in just for reviewing a contraversial decision? Stupid rule, but don't expectnay better from the FA!

Yeah sure it takes a massive effort to watch a video of a 2 second incident a few times and make a decision either way laugh.gif

Just think its ridiculous - you dont see people appealing prison sentences and getting their sentence doubled for the appeal failing.

If the option is there to appeal surely the clubs should be able to exercise that right without further punishment - like you say shouldnt expect anything else really!!
