In a way, its a fair ruling, they get a suspended ban from the sport in return for taking action themselves against Pat Symonds and that italian slimeball Flavio Briatore, the real perpetrators of the scandal.

Kicking Renault out of the sport could have meant them having to make redundant the entire F1 team, which numbers more than 600 people, the FIA i think could not afford to let that happen.

Now though with Briatore not even allowed to be involved in driver management, 4 drivers on the grid are now under threat of having their superlicences revoked due to letting Briatore run their affairs, one of them being Fernando Alonso.

I'm glad they haven't been thrown out but think their punishment is nowhere near hard enough when compared to McLaren who received an astronomical fine and had their constructor points taken away for a far less crime.

Exactly, however Mclaren don't supply engines to other teams in the way that Renault andf Ferrari do so much less political clout. F1 has been riddled with cheating for many years however getting a driver to deliberately crash to ensure a win is a new low even for F1. If it had been McClaren they'd have been out, no if's no buts!!!

Far less indeed, trying by any means to obtaion information about another teams car?, for heavens sake teams have been doing that for years, remember Colin Chapman's ground effect genius on his Lotus 79 (the most beautiful F1 car ever), nearly every team on the grid had copied his design within a year.

But i still believe the judgement is correct, it is a lot harder to kick out a team now (when they manufacturer run and employ hundreds of people) than it was 20 years ago (when nearly every team was a privateer run by about 30 people.)
