So, Jenson Button then?

Please not Button, for god sake he only won because his car had a part that made him quicker than the others for 7 races, when the other cars got their diffusers and we had a level playing field Button was nowhere.

Exactly. Ross Brawn deserves the praise. Button simply steered a quality car.

Only because Brawn favoured Jenson in the early races. It was quite obvious.
Don't get me wrong, who am I to begrudge a world champion, but Ross Brawn's achievement in comparison is far greater.

Don't agree entirely. Jenson set the standards early on in the season, more so than Rubens, despite them both having the quickest cars on the grid, so Brawn focused on Jenson more untill Rubens spat the dummy out. Jenson was their number 1 driver anyway, so it's to be expected. Just like Mclaren did with Lewis ahead of Alonso, Red Bull with Vettel over Webber, Ferrari with Kimi ahead of Massa 2 years ago, then Massa ahead of Kimi last year, etc...

I'd say David Haye must be in for a shout.
Jenson Button at the end of the day has the personality of a brick, he is very uninteresting and comes across as arrogant but in a smug sort of way. Frankly, the car won him the world championship.
David Haye is loud and brash and has fought his way through to becomes Britains best pound for pound boxer and one of the worlds best culminating in a victory over a giant. Again he is arrogant but it is more for show than anything else.
Of course, because it is BBC's show and they do F1, Button will be pushed for the award as far as they possibly can and will probably win it, wrongly imo.

Ironic I know, but the award has nothing to do with "personality" - it's just about who was most successful, making the name a bit ridiculous. In fairly recent years, the likes of Zara Phillips, David Beckham, Michael Owen and Paula Radcliffe have won it. Hardly the most interesting characters!
You're right that Button will win it - I would be very surprised if he didn't.

A poor list but from that I'd go for Ennis.
Whilst Haye & Button have both won good titles however, their success is tainted for me by the fact for Button won becuase of his car for 6 races and Haye beat probably the worst heavyweight champion I've seen. Good on them both as you can only beat whats put in front of you but would have thought more of it had the cometition been better.

No way should Giggs win it. Fantastic footballer and career no doubt, and a model professional as for as I'm aware - but he certainly hasn't done enough this year to compete with the others on the list, let alone win. In fact, wasn't winning the PFA Player of the Year based on the whole 2008 anyway as opposed to 2009/09?
Reminds me of the campaign from Everton fans to vote for Peter Crouch when he couldn't score a goal for Liverpool.

If he was up for lifetime achievement, then that would be probably understandable considering what he's done in his career, not the main award though.

If you removed Ryan Giggs and Phillips Idowu and replace them with those 2, then i'd agree, the list would be a lot better.
But its easy to see why Taylor never gets into the top 10 list seeing that he plays on the PDC circuit while the BBC has a contract with its bitter rival, the BDO

Playing a bit part in a title success and getting the sentimental vote to win a PFA Players award is not enough in my book

Yeah, I don't really care tbh as the award is pretty meaningless, but it's a shame people who deserved it much more couldn't win it because of some silly campaign by Mancs.
As you say, winning PFA Players award was because of the sentimental vote - people could argue he deserved it because he'd never previously won it and his undoubtedly fantastic career, but they're fools because the award is primarily for the best player that season and that wasn't Giggs. Then to go and win Sports Personality of the Year, when he wouldn't have been in contention for it were it not for winning the player of the season award, is just taking the piss.

So a man trying for 10 years to win the F1 championship finally achieves his dreams in a car which was at best a cut and shut job with half the resources of every other team is beaten by a sub who warms the bench now. Granted one of the finest players to grace our football pitches but what has he done this year?
Button must be gutted, any poll with a man u player in is pointless due to their global following. Manu U fans - you gotta despise them.

Your first bit isn't quite true. Surely on that basis, Ross Brawn should have been a nominee? Although he's not an 'active' sportsperson, but still. I just don't think Button winning a F1 Championship in a quality car merits him winning.
It's a joke that Giggs won.

I guessing I'm in the minority here but I'm delighted with Giggs winning it. A great role model, carries a great personality and has had a wonderful career thus far. It's about time someone with personality won the award but I'm not sure that is what the award is really judging. I think even the BBC are confused as to what they are looking for. It's less about personality and more about awarding the most monumental achievement of the year. Under that criteria, there were a fair few better achievers than Giggs on the nominations list.
However, for being a joy to watch on the football pitch at times, the man deserves it!
