How the hel did he get the job? Why has he still got it? Who is keepping him in the job? Why?

From Wiki

Blatter has a long and varied history including posts such as Head of Public Relations of the Valaisan Tourist Board in his native Switzerland, as well as General Secretary of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation. He was Director of Sports Timing and Relations of Longines S.A. and was involved in the organization of the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games. In the early 1970s, Blatter was elected president of the World Society of Friends of Suspenders, an organisation which tried to stop women replacing suspender belts with pantyhose.

Since 1975 Blatter has been working at FIFA, first as Technical Director then General Secretary before his election as FIFA President in 1998. He was re-elected as head of FIFA in 2002 and was re-elected unopposed for another four years on 31 May 2007 even though only 66 of 207 FIFA members nominated him. Sepp Blatter sought another term as FIFA president in December 2009 and was duly elected once more.

Sepp Blatter's 1998 election to the presidency of FIFA over UEFA President Lennart Johansson occurred amidst much controversy. His 2002 candidacy has been marked with rumours of financial irregularities and backroom dealings, culminating with direct accusations of bribery, by a third party, made in the British press by the Farra Ado, vice-president of the CAF and president of the Somalian football association, who claimed to have been offered $100,000 to vote for Blatter in 1998.

Amidst internal divisions, FIFA's secretary-general Blatter's deputy and former protégé, Michel Zen-Ruffinen drew up a 30-page dossier outlining allegations of financial mismanagement within the organisation. The dossier alleged that the collapse of FIFA's marketing partner ISL had led to losses of up to $100m under Blatter's management. The allegations were backed by Johansson, and the dossier was handed to the Swiss authorities, but they cleared him of any wrong doing and FIFA had to pay all the costs.[13] An internal investigation within FIFA was halted by Blatter because members of it broke confidentiality agreements. This questionable behaviour led him to remove Zen-Ruffinen from office immediately before the FIFA World Cup 2002.

You don't really have to look as high as FIFA to know that football is one, big fuckup. Also from Wiki:

Ian Watmore was the Chief Executive of The Football Association. Before that, he was a Civil Servant, latterly as the Permanent Secretary for Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills....

Brian Barwick became CEO of the FA following a stint at ITV, because he was good at negotiating TV deals.....

Adam Crozier came to public attention as the surprise appointment to the role of chief executive of The Football Association, the governing body of England's national game, football, aged just 35 and having had no experience of business in football.....

God knows who else is on the FIFA payroll, mind. Sepp is just an old politician making his mint.

Blatter's rule changes

The silver goal - a complete nonsense - revoke

The current World Cup champion no longer automatically qualifies for the next World Cup finals - fair enough I suppose

National associations must now enforce immediate suspensions of all players sent off during a game, even if television replays offer compelling evidence of a player's innocence - ridiculous

The booking of players who remove their shirts after scoring a goal - even more ridiculous

No football matches will be played above 2500 metres (now 3000m) above sea level - No comprehensive medical studies support this decision. The Andean nations argue that playing in hot, sea level temperature is in fact more dangerous. Clearly Blatter is as ignorant about medical matters as he is about football

Blatter has totally failed to address cheating and in many ways has made matters worse. His reliance on the reliability of a referees split second decision making makes as much sense as the infallabilty of the Pope

Total waste of fucking time that was

Probably the only good decision he's ever made

National associations must now enforce immediate suspensions of all players sent off during a game, even if television replays offer compelling evidence of a player's innocence - ridiculous
I agree, what was wrong with the old 14 day rule?

The booking of players who remove their shirts after scoring a goal - even more ridiculous
This is Blatter at his bonkers worst, he suggests this yet wants women footballers to wear more "sexy" kits blink.gif

He only did this to cater for whinging Brazilians and Argies who were upset at getting thumped fair and square by the likes of Bolivia every time they went there, same old Blatter, caring for the elite

Blatter has totally failed to address cheating and in many ways has made matters worse. His reliance on the reliability of a referees split second decision making makes as much sense as the infallabilty of the Pope

In fairness, I think the silver goal was only complete nonsense with hindsight, and they did repeal it pretty quickly. When it was introduced most people could see the logic of it, trying to encourage teams to attack more in extra time, which would hopefully produce more exciting football and prevent some penalty shoot-outs. But it didn't work out that way - I don't think anyone could have predicted (or did predict) that.
