to be fair it's a decent performance considering how much further on they are in their pre season prep than we are
General Lee Speaking
Well we definietly need a back up on the left wing as Guthrie didn't get near to the touchline all game. Maybe Vuckic or Xisco's the man?

I'm far from convinced that Perch is going to be up to the job based on what I saw today.

A bit too early to judge young Perch me thinks, but then again thats my view. Age is on his side so theres plenty of time to improve his game.

Overall listening to it I thought we did really well, PSV passed us off the park for the first 20-25 minutes but from then on, it was a pretty much even game. Harper had no chance with their 2 goals, both of them right screamers.

As for Leon Best, scoring 2 goals in pre season and one of them against top notch opposition will have done wonders for his confidence. His goal today was great too, a lovely glancing header.

Well, roll on Tuesday and that trip to Deportivo wacko.gif

Realistically, James is unlikely to feature in Capello's plans as he targets qualification for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
West Ham's Green may be given another chance, while many England supporters would like to see Manchester City's Joe Hart take the number one jersey.
However, Hart, 23, is not likely to start the season as first choice keeper for City manager Roberto Mancini with Republic of Ireland stalwart Shay Given fit again.
Former England number one Paul Robinson, 30, capped 41 times, may also come back into contention if he continues to play well at Blackburn, and Wigan's Chris Kirkland, 29, is another option.

BBC

...If Harper does okay this season and still doesn't get a look in, then it proves how blinded Capello is with his selections.

I don't think Harper is the answer. Should be Hart and Foster in the squad from now on.

Harper isn't good enough for England and I don't think he ever has been tbh (maybe years ago, but we never got to see him play).

Hart should seriously look at getting at least a loan move if he doesn't start for City. He's wasted as a reserve when he has a great career as England keeper ahead of him.

Didnt manage to catch any coverage of the game yesterday but saw the goals on SSN.

Decent result in the end against good opposition who are slightly ahead in their season preparations. Two pretty spectacular strikes for their goals which it didnt look like we could do too much about (didnt really show the build up to them on the highlights of course) and always good to see the team fight back from behind even in a friendly.

Another goal for Best wont do him any harm either. Sounds like we missed the wide men from what I have read so I think a backup winger is a must in terms of transfer targets just in case Jonas or Routledge are missing at any point in the season.

The first one we couldn't have done much about other than Perch not giving away the free kick. I think they moved the ball from where the foul was committed though - would need to see it again. The second one Smith didn't close him down but it was a great strike.

Thought we played very well - we are going to struggle though down the right flank, we are poor attacking and poor defensively down there. Routlege is proving not to be good enough - he will be fine against poor sides. Guthrie and Barton playing very well. Harper is making me quite nervous though, not commanding enough. Left flank we should have no problems barring injuries. Main focus between now and Man U game is crossing the ball.

This is Rangers, its not Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool or even Fulham. They are shit and so are we.

We have dominated possesion for 55 minutes now and we just aren't creating any chances at all.

If this is anything to go by, we are in a whole heap of trouble next season but i guess we all know that anyway.

eesh you lot can whine sometimes tongue.gif

We weren't clinical enough today, and there were a couple shaky moments at the back, but we dominated most of the match, and looked encouraging. A bit more guile and creativity and we'll be fine, lets not forget it IS still a friendly, we have enough time to up our game for United, who - lets be honest, will be a bonus if we get anything from anyway.

Absolutely spot on. wacko.gif

Yes we do look a tad weak on the right flank and concieved to waste a lot of chances but overall, I think the scoreline flattered Rangers, we dominated for long periods and plyed some decent stuff.

Lets not forget, the main objective of the season is SURVIVAL, and on the basis of this game and the rest of pre season, I've seen enough to suggest we will be able to stay up or even reach the dizzy heights of lower mid-table (14th-15th). Anyone who thinks we should be aiming for higher than just that this season is mad.

I'd be interested to see the territory stats for that match, it seemed the ball was in their half almost all the match although disappointingly the only stat that matters is the score and it's concerning we can have that much of the play but still not create much.

Thats the major thing. That was almost certainly 4 of the 5 starting midfield and in all honesty they couldn't break Rangers down and for the first 60 minutes didn't create anything really.

True, only people who give a damn about results are the media, remember that embarassment at Leyton Orient last year, thats probably an exception as that thumping helped us once and for all sort out the mercenaries who wanted to go from those who wanted to stay and fight for the club.

It Didnt stop the media from pillaring us and calling us "not even good enough for League One" and going to the opener at West Brom oping and praying for us to get a similar hiding to back up what they said that day.

Im more interested in our performances and our standard of play during the 5 games this summer and like I said earlier, I've seen enough to suggest we are capable of achieving at least the minimum target of survival, like you say though we could do with a couple more signings to help us make sure of achieving that goal, plus Gosling's return from inury before xmas (if possible) will be a huge boost as well.

Worryingly Carroll and Jose apparently picked up injuries at Rangers - no word on how serious but Carrolls is enough for him to have pulled out of Englands U21 game.

Wouldnt fancy going to OT with no Jose seeing as we have no back up left back for the 97th season in a row doh.gif
