England showed a lot of character today but our batting must improve

Great spell of bowling by Anderson and Swann after lunch which made it get very close, but not to be. Good atmosphere though.

I wasn't following this because I was out in the sun all day, however I don't class taking wickets against a decidedly suspect Pakistan batting line-up "showing character" - not being skittled over in such pathetic fashion yesterday would have been showing character.

Strong views from someone who didn't watch the match. This "suspect" Pakistan batting line up has already beaten Australia this Summer. Hameed and Yousuf have been recalled to the side since then.

The collapse yesterday was poor but it was an explosive bowling spell from Amir and Ajmal that would have troubled most teams.

But what would I know - I only watched the game

Pakistan's bowling attack was really good and they did the same to Australia so it's not easy to bat against them but I do think that while England have bowled well throughout the series, skittling Pakistan out the way they did in the first two test matches isn't saying a whole lot because Pakistan have gone past 300 once in the last 10 innings.Their batting is exceptionally weak, Yousuf apart.Yasir Hameed is the same as Imran Farhat not very good.And the rest of the bastmen well they've been complete shit all summer.And even in the second innings when Pakistan lost 3 wickets around 125, 2 off those wickets were Pakistan's stupidity/nerves like that run out.
And I'm not getting ahead of myself because of one Pakistan victory.I think that is the first time Pakistan as a team have properly challenged England as opposed to just the bowlers and England couldn't win especially when Pakistan stopped dropping catches

Great sports week though personally for me.Pakistan win and then Newcastle dole out a massive beating

Looking at the weather forecast, I can't see there being much cricket played at Lords today, although the other 4 days are expected to be fine.

Trott as well, this is one unbelieveable 8th wicket stand, 231 at the moment

Just seen the highlights, Trott is consitent and pateint, a great test batsmen (something Pieterson could learn) while Broad had all the strokes and deserved his first ever century.
Mohammed Amir deserves credit too, 6 wickets at Lords aged 18 is immense, he's got the potential to be one the the greatest bowlers of all time.

and still the stand goes on, 263 now, Trott's got his 150, Broad is 15 away from joining him

Match fixing scandal!

NOTW have footage of a Pakistani associate receiving money in exchange for bowlers bowling no-balls.

Bit more on the match-fixing scandal (actually not match-fixing, but I don't know what you call it - a bet-fixing scandal?), now Butt, Asif and Amir have been "stood down" for the rest of the tour. They apparently want to clear their names, but it's hard to see how at the moment.

It's probably the biggest story of this nature that I can remember since Hansie Cronje. He was banned for life of course, then died in slightly suspicious circumstances 2 years later.

Think it's being described as 'spot-fixing' as it's only small parts of the game they were trying to 'fix'. That said it's not completely different to match-fixing, as if one of the no-balls had got Trott/Broad out early on in their stunning partnership, the match could have been a whole lot different. Being paid to bowl no-balls just seems a bit weird to me, even if they are found guilty. Then again it's a sad state of affairs when these things happen - especially in cricket of all sports.

Don't know if this seems lenient to many people, but as it's their first incident, I don't think the players should be banned for life.

The reason it's unacceptable in this case doesn't have much to do with the result of the match - it is essentially colluding in money-laundering, which is a criminal act. I expect the sport will take a hard line on this (assuming they are found guilty).

It's only the first incident that we know about. Apparently Pakistani investigators have been looking into this kind of thing for a while.

It's a bit convenient isn't it that this comes out when Pakistan wins?But during the first two games The Sun didn't release anything?The test match scandal I can believe but I think even the Pakistani players after that wouldn't be this stupid and it's just far too convenient this happens after Pakistan wins a game

And if Butt was involved well then he definitely should go.I actually had hope that he owuld make a good captain given that he's probably the first Pakistani captain since Wasim Akram to actually have some sort of proper education.Given the fact that unlike 99% of most Pakistani cricket players he is educated so he should absolutely know better and he definitely should not have leniency

The only person who I am slightly sympathetic for is Aamer since he is 18 but it also sends out a wrong message to other players.It's like if you're 18 and possibly one of the most exciting players around you can get away with things like that?But at the same time he is only 18.But Butt and Asif absolutely should be banned if they were involved

Hilarious commentary on tms. They were talking about Mike Tyson being in one of the executive boxes with KP, Aggers said Shilpa (not sure who that is) should go and ask him for an interview, but "if he says no, I think he means no"... Not at all a reference to his convictions I'm sure
