General Lee Speaking
Can't see anything other than Nani, Evra and Rooney ripping us a new arsehole as it were and destroying whichever hapless soul is chosen to play at RB, be it Perch or R Taylor.

Team:

----------------- Harper -----------------

R Taylor - Williamson - Colo - Enrique

Routledge - Guthrie - Barton - Jonas

------------- Nolan ---------------------

------------------ Carroll --------------

Bench: Krul, Perch, Tavernier, Smith, Lovenkrands, Vuckic, Ameobi

I went for 4-1 to Man Utd in the predictor thread so I'll stick with that and Carroll to get his first of the season for us. Could be Perch as RB and maybe Campbell on the bench. Doubt we'll play 2 up front in this one, though.
Big Bad Titus
I would expect Smith to play if he is fit maybe at the expense of one of the wingers with Barton or Guthrie playing wide.

Id possibly go Taylor ahead of Perch pure and simply because the only chance we probably have of scoring is from a set piece which is one of the few things that Taylor is good at.

Personally I would go with what you said but would have Taylor at RB and Smith in instead of Guthrie.

One of those games where the likelihood is we will get thumped but if we can not concede an early goal and keep it nice and tight and frustrate them then you never know.

Replace Ryan Taylor with Perch and I think thats pretty much what we're going in with.

Hopefully Campbell will be match fit in time for Villa next week but my guess is we'll probably see him for the first time at Accy Stanley
General Lee Speaking
I'm not convinced Smith is up to the job after seeing him in pre-season. Hopefully he was still getting fitness back but he's a worry for me. Not sure how Hughton sees it.
Whitley Mag
Gonna get raped! Doesn't matter what side we put out nor does the formation matter, we could play 7-3-0 and we'd still get hammered.

I'm going for defeat that reflects the poor standard of investment that has gone into the club over the summer 5-0 and in all honesty i think it could be more.

A very hard start to a very hard season sadly.

Personally I think we'll thrash them 6-0. happy.gif

Well i can't really see much to be positive about, i think our signing have been average at best, nobody can be getting carried away over Sol Cambpell, Perch or Gosling.

If we get Ben Arfa and dare i say Bellamy then it would be a different kettle of fish but there is no way we are getting either.

Anyway, i'd go :

-------------------------Harper-------------------------------

Perch--Taylor-Collocini--Williamson-Campbell-Kadar-Jose

------------Barton----Guthrie-----Nolan----------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------

And hope to hold out for a 0-0
GreekGeordie.
Ben arfa will join, Doubt Bellamy will though..

In all seriousness, I think Smith will start at the expense of Guthrie but I agree we'll play only one up front.

We will lose, but we might aswell give it a go with nothing to play for at the start of the season. If enrique can handle valenica and barton/smith/nolan can be physical in the middle we would be able to stop them, remember burnley last year?

Shay should leave ASAP. Too good a keeper to have on the bench.

Hope he goes to Arsenal, it would be a great move for him and for aresnal, and he's 4 years younger than Schwarzer.

But seriously, whenever I watched him play for Barca he looked distinctly average, and he was absolute dog shit in the CL against Inter.

Based on this game then no you aren't the only one, he looks big and clumsy and to have the control of Shola. I'm sure he is better than that though, probably just having a bad game so far.
