People starting to get it now then?

Agree Colo, Williamson, Barton, Enrique and Carroll were class. Even when Jonas has a good game like today I'm still frustrated because he could be doing more.

Get what? It was one of those games. Just as you can't read too much from getting outplayed by Man U, ...
Anyway, at least Whitley might have to take it down a notch or two for a few days.

Do you read the negative shit written on this site?

Get what? That all of our players aren't Championship standard players. They may not be up to Man Utd and Chelsea's standards but we have decent enough players to stay up. People have been slating Carroll, Nolan, Barton, Routledge, Colo, Williamson, et al. before they even kicked off this season.

doh.gif Just because one or two posters go overboard doesn't exactly make it a universal opinion. We are a pretty average team. We have some decent players and some pretty poor ones. We lack strength in depth and despite what happened today, we have serious weaknesses in crucial areas of the team. This season will be tricky. A few injuries and it could be very tricky indeed. A hammering by Man U and a hammering of Villa doesn't change that.

FFS BIK. No-one is saying we are better than CSKA London or man ure but we have better than average players who are clearly fully united as a team - team spirit goes a long way. Psychologically today will have done a vast amount of good. Whilst I will be entering into a game of unrealistic Hyperbole, neither am I about to start with untrue litotes

When Carroll's 3rd went in, the chant of "England's number 9!" went up in the pub!

That was pure class today. Villa looked poor, but we made them look poor. Best Newcastle performance I can remember seeing for a long, long time mellow.gif

We did well today and it will be interesting to see what the press have to say about us now.

Lets not get carried away though, Newcastle 6 Villa 0 is a freak result and there is every chance that had Carew not beaten Liam O'brien for the record of the longest penalty into the Gallowgate then the result would of been a whole lot different.

What we need to do now is build on this result and hopefully come out of the next 2 league games (blackpool and wolves for those who dont know) with at least 4 points and then we will be looking like a team who can avoid relegation.

Did I say that? I was responding to the "get it now" comment. Too many people on this board go overboard in both directions. The team looks together and it played well today. Good. But the same issues are still there as they have always been and that the likes of Whitley and Roland take to extremes - but they are still there.

AND...Quietly impressed with the Xisco kid's short performance today. Although his first contribution ended shite, sure that could be nerves, his assist for Carroll's hatrick was superb.

Immense. Villa were clueless though. Defence looked sound - Williamson and Enrique impressing while Colo and Perch were solid. Won the game in midfield - Smith did his job well, Barton was class, Nolan took a bit of time to get into the game but his goals were well taken and Jonas put in a typical performance. Routledge needs to learn how to cross. Finally, what more can be said about Carroll. Won absolutely everything in the air, every goal was finished in style AND he's in my fantasy team!

Happy days. biggrin.gif

Without any hint of hyperbole, that was our best 90 minutes for some years. Everyone played well and again for each other. The difference between today and the last Villa game was huge. The only negatives were, for me, doubts that Perch is good enough to cope with the top six but there is no rush to bring back Staylor who is no longer certain to get straight back in, unless its at RB. Who will Sol replace?

Good game, good atmosphere and if we can repeat that performance we'll be ok.

That could be a good thing mate happy.gif Nee fecker expects owt from the Xisco kid, so just might be that case that the lad has been written off, he may well be an un-polished diamond.

I realise it is very early days, and I do understand the likes of Whitley and Roland's pessimism, but I am absolutely chuffed from today's performance, and I feel that we will be fecking sound this season. What I do love to bits is every time the camera was off the ball, the whole team seemed to be laughing and joking with one another. I think the team spirit that the Toon has at the moment is fantastic and will ensure a good proportion of the seasons points on offer, will be in our bag.

Just managed to get back from the game and im still in total shock.

Id did look glum when Harper conceded the penalty but then Carew stepped up to deliver one of the worst penalty kicks i've ever seen at SJP, one Jonny Wilkinson would have been proud of.

What followed was a capitulation beyond belief, Villa just completely caved in once Barton scored that stunning 25 yarder, from then on it was a field day, attack after attack raining in on the Villa goal with Nolan and Carroll the beneficiaries, both capitalising on some god-awful Villa defending.

The 2nd half didnt change much either, Heskey got the expected round of boos and Habib Beye got a mixed reception when he came on but the massacre continued. Carroll making it 4, Nolan scrambling home number 5 before Carroll completed his hat-trick with in my view the best goal of the 3, after breaking clear of his marker Richard Dunne, he then deceived Friedel with a touch on the right foot before finishing superbly with his weaker left foot.

Man of match without a doubt in my eyes was Enrique, arguably the best i've ever seen him in a Toon shirt, he won every ball cleanly and got forward well too. But if I could give MOTM awards to everyone in black and white today, then I would have done, they were all superb.

Xisco has come on in the last 2 games and in pre-season and played on the left. I hope Hughton isn't thinking of him as a back-up to Jonas!

Don't mind keeping him as I think he's got something about him, but not as a winger!

TBF I've seen more promise from him playing on the left wing than up front.

Well Ben Arfa can play on the left as well can't he?So if we get him hopefully that won't happen although the Bremen news is a bit worrying

I thought Bremen had denied they were interested. Are you miles behind or am I?

Fantastic performance from us today, but without shooting me down there were a few things I noticed:

The first 15-20 mins before the barton goal we seemed to lack ideas, played way too high up the pitch that Petrov and Downing were putting balls one after the other behind our defence. Went unpunished today but could be in future matches.

Routledge, whilst being willing and having pace to burn often looked short of ideas (I was thinking nerves but hes been at this level before). He put 1 cross in the whole match, and looked like he sometimes didn't know what to do. Put in a good shift but was rather worrying especially since our back up is Guthrie.

Also, have to say perch and williamson were brilliant, Williamson is looking like a solid signing and perch is slowly going up in my estimations.

Finally, after all the criticism of our midfield in recent years, it was a breath of fresh air to see Barton literally running the game from midfield, coming short to pick it up and distribute it forwards and not breaking momentum (the run in the 90th min to give it to Carroll exemplified this). Also Smith breaking from midfield on countless occasions, just gave our side a more solid look. Impressed with Barton and Smith immensely, maybe he feels threatened by Tiote's arrival?? Who cares, his performance was fantastic and long may it continue!

Look at the author of the article and you'll see why I am not suprised

I've even taken the liberty of replying to that piece of shit

I've added my comments too. Shocking - even by Taylor's standards

Newcastle players getting praised? No way.
Whitley Mag
Whitley Mags officially unofficial match ratings:

Harper 6 - Could of been so much different after his stupid mistake, kicking was fairly poor

Perch 7 - A big improvement on his display at Old Trafford last week, looked a lot more composed
Enrique 9 - Best performance i can remember from him, outstanding game really
Williamson 8 - Had Carew and Young in his back pocket.
Collocini 8 - See a mixture of Perch and Williamson

Routledge 6 - Didn't play badly but i'm still concerned that he has very little end product
Jonas 6 - Same as Routledge
Smith 7 - Worked hard and along with Barton controlled the whole game
Barton 8 - Tireless performance, he was all over the pitch and his tackling was great, fantastic goal too

Nolan 9 - Credit where its due, the big man whilst lacking pace is a bulldozer and overpowered the Villa defence, great day for him

Carroll 10 - man of the match, 3 goals, an assyst and some vital defensive headers too. I know it was just one match but he looked outstanding yesterday.

Shola 5 - didnt really do much in fairness
Xisco 7 - after the 2 fouls and run into nowhere in his first 5 minutes he stepped it up a bit, great lay on for Carrolls 3rd and he worked hard
Taylor 5 - like Shola, not much for him, came close with a decent free kick but his corners couldn't clear the front defender most of the time.

A lot better, albeit a bit of a freak result. To stay up, we need to win 13 of our 19 home games and have a couple of good results on the road, Villa would of been one of the 6 games i didn't expect to win, so it is a great start and if you had said just over a week ago that after 2 games against Man Utd and Villa we would have 3 goals and a plus 3 goal difference, i think we would of all taken it.

Pretty much spot in Whitley - although Ameobi won the corner and had an assist for Nolan's 2nd goal.

Since when did Newcastle learn to take corners? After years of failing to clear the first defender, they finally seem to have got it biggrin.gif

You'll need something to comfort you next spring when you're mired in to relegation dog-fight.

Can I point out that we are ahead of Rovers on goal difference and that your 3 points were the result of a jammy win due to a goal keeping howler.

Blackburn are more likley to be scrapping for points to avoid relegation that pushing for Europe this season happy.gif

I think she's taken it one step further than usual; if she can't find fault with the team, she has a go at the people instead, suggesting Carroll 'reverts to type', the 'type' being a still present 1930's 'working man's' mentality South of the river.

God, her hatred must be bubbling over right now.

Carroll's been called up to the U21 squad, so won't be in the main squad this time round.

Won't be til after the October hearing, I imagine. The only thing...ever...that I agree with Louise Taylor about.
Big Bad Titus
Gutted I missed the game although sat in a bar with the sun shining, with a cold beer overlooking a beach was probably the next best thing to being there biggrin.gif

Great performance by most to be honest, thought we looked miles better than Villa.
