Frankly, as a Newcastle fan i'm happy Carroll won't be risked for England but there is no doubt he deserves it, surely i'm not just biased? He has done it all so far this season and is the on form English striker.

Carroll, 4 goals in 3 games and a complete handful. Big, tall, strong, good in the air and can finish...isn't that just what we're looking for?

I dont agree that Rooney should be dropped Whitley, he had a bad world cup but is still by far and away our stand out player. Hes going through a lean spell much like Shearer did pre Euro 96 and im pretty sure he will be back to his best soon.

I dont really think it should matter that Carroll hasnt played that many Premier Leagie games and he has played nearly 20 if you count the ones in our relegation season. Gibbs has only played about 10 times for Arsenal.

Hes on form and more importantly he looks a good player, its not like he looks shite but has luckily banged in a few tap ins, he does genuinely look like he could be international class and do a job for England.

It just always seems to be mixed messages and contradictions, thats what pisses me off. After the world cup its supposedly a new start with younger players being given a chance then the next squad that gets picked we are reverting to some of the old shite and ignoring a good young player bang in form in favour of others who shouldnt even be near the team.

Carroll hasn't proved himself enought yet, should harewood get a call up for his two goals against wigan? although carlton cole is shocking and rooney is out of from, but I still think Defoe and Crouch is a good bet up front.

God help us if we have to go into these games with Upson & Dawson as first choice centre backs. What the feck is Carson doing in the squad? He has done nothing to redeem himself, in fact he just got 6 knocked past him 2 weeks ago and a few of those he was at fault.

I'm not too concerned about Carroll not getting in just yet but when you see the likes fo Carlton Cole get picked then you know Capello has just lost it, Cole had a spell of a few games where he looked in form but I'm sure that was about a year or 18 months ago.

As good and as promising as Carroll is, another year in the U21 setup will be more beneficial to him than being fast-tracked into the senior squad so im not concerned about that.

The rest of the squad though Carson is a joke of a pick, Upson is error prone and Carlton Cole, well I dont rate him much higher than Ameobi.

It's no secret that there's a dirth of talent - when I suggested after the WC that he give up with the squad and bring in the young talent, everybody was saying 'Where is the young talent'.
So now that he's ignoring the young talent and bringing in experienced second stringers everybody's dumping on him.

I disagree, I think Cole has looked really good. I think the fact that he's missed a pen and been sent off make his performances sound worse than they are. Would have had him in the squad ahead of SWP at least.

What an absolute shite argument. Nobody is saying Carroll should get called up just because he has scored a couple of goals - his all round play is something the England team is crying out for and he is a young hungry player.

He shouldnt necessarily be starting but he must surely have a shout at getting in the squad if the likes of C Cole, SWP etc are?

On saturday's, call collymore on talksport, I lost count on the number of fans singing Carroll's praises, Man Utd fans, Wolves fans, Man City fans, the lot. Collymore though did take it too far on Sunday though trying to stir up shit by saying Carroll should go to his beloved Liverpool now.

I agree that he should go for the young talent, and he did that for the game against Hungary, but now he's brought back all the old people who have done nothing for England.

I think we have a set of youngsters coming through now who are really promising, which we have lacked for the last 5 or 10 years. Wilshere, Gibbs, Rodwell, Phil Jones, Carroll, Loach, Adam Johnson, Albrighton, etc etc all young and look very good prospects.

I'd have him over SWP but I don't think he's been any good. Looked sloppy. I'll admit he's looked better than what I thought he would with not getting much games at Chelsea. He's only played well against Trabzponspor and they're not much to shout about.

Carroll has pulled out ofthe under-21 squad due to his ongoing ankle injury. Hopefully a couple of weeks without a game will give it time to recover.

Good for us really as much as I like seeing our players representing their country.
